Abstract
Myths, especially creation myths, have been often misunderstood as irrational, superstitious or having no sense. They are believed as the cultures of primitive society that are not able to use their reason. This article aims to show that such claim is a mistake. Conversely, a myth is originally religious in its nature. Like folktales, fables, legends, sage and other folklores, myths carry a certain religious, moral or social message for a given society. We believe that if creation myths are well studied, they can be applied as stepping stones to proclaiming the Judeo-Christian faith as found in the Gospel and in the teachings of the Church. In order to demonstrate this dream, this study will look in depth the creation myth of the Ngaju-Dayak as an example and make some attempts to build a dialogue between Christian faith and the Ngaju-Dayak traditional religion as it is clear in their creation myth. However, prior to working to achieve this goal, we think, it is a good idea to explore at the first place what myth is all about. Our study on this topic will depend largely upon the works of Mircea Eliade.
