Abstract

The tradition of circumcision in the Salu Village community has meaning apart from being a form of human "sacrifice" to the gods, which means an expression of hope for natural fertility to those who give "food" and also means a symbol of self-cleansing and readiness to be with the community. In the Islamic religion, circumcision is required for followers of the Islamic religion as a symbol of self-cleaning (body purity). This refers to one of the conditions for valid prayer, namely bodily purity. In the practice of circumcision (circumcision) there is a stage where the circumcised person will feel pain for approximately 2-3 weeks. Generally at this stage both parties focus more on healing the pain but ignore the meaning of the pain. The author uses library research methods from several supporting literature and interviews with several sources to deepen the writing. The traditions of the people of Salu Village and the Islamic religion have not seriously interpreted the meaning of pain after circumcision. Pain is only seen as a result of the circumcision process without in-depth interpretation of its meaning. The author uses Heidiger's Interpretative Phenomenology concept that experiences can be interpreted in three concepts of time. The author found that the pain after circumcision is consistent with the pain experienced by women during the birth process. This means that a man has fully felt the sacrifice of a woman in life. The pain after circumcision (circumcision) teaches men to respect women and feel compassion for women's sacrifices. Circumcision (circumcision) in the Salu Village tradition and in Islamic teachings have similarities as a symbol of bodily purity but also in terms of pain as a form of respect for women.
