Abstract

Progress and development in the era of globalization show the current socio-cultural differentiation from the past. It triggers forces to dominate each other and clash between values or understandings. One widespread impact was the rise of individualism. Human beings who were originally social creatures have now turned into individualist creatures. Individuality born from the era of globalization obscures cultural values that have taken root in society. This paper aims to elaborate and base the acculturation of Islam and Lejong culture in Manggarai as a foundation for reducing individualism. The method used in this paper is qualitative research with data collection techniques through a literature study approach. With a literature study approach, researchers study literature on Lejong culture, Lejong cultural philosophy (reis, ruis, raes, and raos), poetry (go'et) of the Manggarai community, friendship culture in Islam, and symptoms of individualism that occur today. Sources in this paper are journals and books. The focus of this paper is to find a correlation between the process of Islamic acculturation and Lejong culture in Manggarai in reducing individualism. This is because in the Islamic world and Lejong culture in Manggarai highly upholds the value of brotherhood and firmly rejects individualist attitudes. The two must unite to overcome the problem. Acculturation of friendship in Islam and Lejong culture in Manggarai is an example of the unity of religious and cultural values that can restore humans to their true essence.
