Abstract

This paper departs from two opposing assumptions, where on the one hand, real service is the main aspect according to Jesus' message (cf. Matt. 25:40), while prayer is the umpteenth place. Furthermore, on the other hand there is an understanding that God is all good so God knows what He should give His people and does not need humans to come to Him all the time. According to Gloria Polo, today's believers pray is not a dynamic communication with God but pray to God when there is a need. Actually, this assumption creates a distance between humans and the God they believe in. Therefore, when there are difficulties and suffering, people assume that God is not in their lives. This view is supported by traditional atheists by building a basic thought concept that "if there is suffering then God does not exist". Thus, humans find it difficult to endure suffering and deify technology that often offers the wealth of happiness in a safe and universal world. The prophet Elijah was a well-known contemplative in his day and is still relevant today. He is also famous because he was a warrior for justice for the Israelites who were oppressed by King Ahab, Jesebel's husband. The name Elijah, in his mother tongue "Eliyahu" which means "My God is Yahweh". He was known as a warrior for justice, and underlying his struggle was his deep relationship with Yahweh. Elijah's prayer life was very unique and interesting and different from other Prophets. Elijah's prayer life can be found in (1 Kings 1719:1-13). Elijah's prayer life “influenced” those who were suffering, poor, neglected, discriminated against and other suffering, to lead them to find God. However, according to liberals prayer is not important and has no effect in the work of ministry and prayer as an insert in the work of ministry. This liberal view is refuted by conservatives who assert that prayer is the most important element in pastoral care because God himself comes down directly to help people in trouble. According to Messahk, prayer is an important element in the context of mentoring and guidance in serving others to face life's challenges. He asserted that prayer will heal human problems physically, spiritually, psychologically and socially faced by every human being. In addition, according to Gray, Elijah's prayer that raised the widow's son in Zarephath was not the influence of Elijah's prayer life but the Magic culture of that era. Gray's view was refuted by Ronald Allen, that Elijah acted this way because he was a godly man before God, he believed that God could do anything. According to the author, the views of liberals and Gray override the importance of prayer in every ministry. In the work of ministry, prayer is not an insertion activity but as a fundamental force or driving spirit in any ministry. Therefore, reflecting on the views of agree and disagree, the writer refers to Elijah's prayer life that Elijah is able to do the great work that Yahweh has entrusted to him because he lives in silence, works and returns to silence. That means, how important prayer life in Elijah's life. the views of liberals and Grays override the importance of prayer in every ministry. Through interviews and questionnaire questions, some of the confreres acknowledged that in their actual ministry, Elijah's prayer life really influenced them in their real ministry. The work of the Carmelites' ministry consisted of caring for the categorical groups that came into direct contact under the guidance of the Carmelites in Mageria and care for those who were suffering. This paper aims to explore and explore Elijah's prayer life and its influence on the ministry of the Carmelites in Mageria. The author uses qualitative and quantitative methods using SWOT analysis (combined or mixed methods), knowing Strong (strengths), Weaknesses (weaknesses) Opportunities (opportunities) and Threats (Challenges) in writing this thesis. The respondents consisted of 16 priests, brothers and brothers. There are three dimensions that affect the work of the Carmelites' ministry, namely the dimension of prayer life, the dimension of brotherhood life and the dimension of silence. Based on the data analyzed, these three dimensions are very influential in the work of the Carmelite ministry in Mageria. First, the dimension of silence with 4 questions and in general respondents answered with a percentage (100%). Second, prayer dimension with 5 questions and in general the Carmelites answered with a percentage (100%). Third, the dimension of brotherhood with 3 questions, where 15 respondents answered "Yes" with a percentage (93.75%) and those who answered "No" amounted to 1 respondent with a percentage (6.25%). Based on the SWOT analysis, the authors look at Strength (Strength), Weakness (Weakness), Opportunity (opportunity or opportunity), Threat (Challenge). First: Strength, (Strength). The author finds the strength lies in the Carmelites that Elijah's prayer life becomes an inspiration and model in their ministry. Second: Weakness (Weakness). The author finds the weakness lies in the lack of priests, brothers or brothers working in Mageria. Third: Opportunity (Chance or Opportunity). Today people are more concerned with personal interests by paying less attention to spiritual things, namely the prayer life and the lack of maintaining silence in the prayer life. Facing this reality, the Carmelites are called to continue to bear witness to spiritual life to those they serve, which comes from the life model of the Prophet Elijah's prayer. Fourth: Threat (challenge). First: from those served by the Carmelites. In general, those who are served are affected by the current of technological and scientific developments so that it is not easy for them to participate in spiritual activities. Second: in Carmelites is the number of tasks they have that they do not pray together during the day, but they personally replace them at other times.
